Did You Know?

Replacement exhaust parts are made out of various grades of metal and have different life expectancies. Today's Original Equipment exhaust parts are typically made from stainless steel and should last a minimum of eight years. Original Equipment stainless steel parts offer far superior corrosion resistance than the common aftermarket grade aluminized low carbon steel versions. In addition, lifetime "muffler only" warranties often cover only a small portion of the cost to replace a complete exhaust system.

1 Catalytic Converter

Function:
Reduces the exhaust system's harmful emissions.
Signs of Wear:
Reduced engine performance and fuel economy, increased exhaust emissions.

2 Muffler

Function:
Reduces exhaust noise.
Signs of Wear:
Loud exhaust.

3 PCV Valve

Function:
Controls internal pressure in the engine.
Signs of Wear:
Engine runs rough or stalls.

4 EGR Valve

Function:
Re-circulates some of the engine's exhaust gas back into the intake manifold to be re burned, thereby reducing emissions.
Signs of Wear:
Rough-running engine, engine hesitation or stalling, "Service Engine Soon" light illuminates.

5 Oxygen Sensor

Function:
Senses oxygen content in the exhaust gas. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses this input to optimize the combustion process.
Signs of Wear:
Rough-running engine, poor fuel economy, "Service Engine Soon" light illuminates.
